Spring Break

Spring Break was last week for the older 2 kids.  My first activity was making bread, to try out a new recipe from a friend.  It turned out awesome!  The kids said it was the best ever.  Monday we went on impromptu trip to Chipley, FL to the Falling Waters State Park.  We stopped in Enterprise to pick up a friend to go with us.  Then, we stopped at Walmart for food and other supplies.  There is a waterfall that is 73ft in a 100ft sink hole.  No mountainous waterfall in FL, but it was pretty.  The size of it depends on the amount of rain.  We walked one of the trails to warm up enough for the water.  The weather was perfect to be out.  They have a very small lake there with a white sand beach.  The kids changed and had fun for a couple hours playing in the sand.  I saw Tate getting a little red, despite the sunscreen and said it was time to go.  It definitely on our places to return to even has some camp sites.  It's only a little over an hour away.  No pictures b/c of my failure to bring the camera.  Imagine that.  I forgot something.

The next evening, this is was Tate decided to do when no one would play with him.  Don't know if he was hungry too, but this is a WHOLE bag of multigrain Cheerios, minus about 2 bowls.  Yeah, that was fun to clean up.  Thanks Tate.  I guess it could have been worse.  :)

Thursday was our day to go to the beach.  A bunch of people referred me to the beach at Tyndall AFB because it's not too crowded and very nice.  However, they failed to tell me about the horribly long boardwalk that leads to the beach, the the ensuing soft sand you have to walk through to get to a decent spot away from the beach grass roped off for environmental purposes.  If I had known about the boardwalk, we wouldn't have brought the cooler actually onto the beach.  BUT, we were over halfway down it before we realized how long it was.  (It twisted and curved so you couldn't see the end from the beginning.)  A grandfather took pity on us at the end of the boardwalk and helped me carry the cooler to an unoccupied spot close by.  We played for a few hours, then started making our way back to the boardwalk and down to the car.  A young airman felt sorry for us and offered to walk the cooler ALL the way to the car.  I thanked him repeatedly and he admitted he almost didn't stop, but felt that if it were him (or his future wife and kids) he would like someone to stop and help.  So he did.  What a nice guy!  (Yes the cooler had wheels, but didn't make much of a difference when you have a tired 3 and 2 year old and are carrying a big bag of other beach stuff that the older 2 wouldn't/couldn't carry.)  We all got a little red, again, despite the sunscreen and reapplications.  We relaxed the rest of Spring Break and just let the kids play.  I think they had a good time, despite the fact that Ken couldn't go with us anywhere.  Hopefully he'll be able to take leave fairly soon in the summer and we'll be able to go explore place a little more.
