Every quarter in school Blake has had a math project on the math principles he's studying. The first project was on calculating area, perimeter and such. He was to pretend he was a space explorer sent to Mars to find a prime location for a new colony. It had to have all the substances to sustain life. He had to do all the measurements and write a report. The second project was on statistics. Blake had to interview different people and ask them their age and what they wanted for Christmas. He then took that information and categorized it and put it into a bar graph, along with a letter to Santa reporting what his results. The third project (shown below) was on how math and art go together. They talked about the Cubism movement (i.e., Picasso) and how geometric shapes were included in the art. They had to pick an art movement and write about it, along with making a picture that included one focal shape, the three types of triangles and angles, and movement of shapes (like translation, rotation, etc). Blake had a lot of fun learning how to use a protractor, researching different artists, and coming up with an idea for his art work.
