Blake's parade

Blake's school held a storybook character parade last week. It was a little cold, but worth the 20 minutes it took for all the kids to march by. They went by grade. We saw some kids from church in the parade, as well as some parents watching like we were. The middle schoolers had the option to dress up or be part of the audience. The kids that dressed up had to be a character from a book and carry that book with them. Blake is into the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne. He chose to be the knight in the second in the series "The Knight at Dawn". We used disposable cookie sheets for his breastplate, disposable pizza pan for the shield, and covered a baseball hat and cardboard sword with tin foil. The hat looks funny because he had to wear his beanie hat due to the cold and couldn't get the baseball hat on over the beanie. He had great fun marching with his friends and watching for us. We had fun watching all the kids dressed up. There was even a 'man with the yellow hat' with a monkey on his back. And the coconut tree from Chick-a-Chick-a Boom Boom.
