A few weeks ago some friends mentioned they were taking a trip south to see a few different things. We were VERY interested in going down there, and so plans were made for the long weekend of July 4th. We left Saturday morning around 8am and headed to our first stop of the day, Gumi (sometimes Kumi as the k/g sounds are pronounced similarly here). We went to Gumi planning on hiking to a waterfall on a mountain. It was rough as the way was 'paved' with rough, uneven stones. We took turns carrying Tate between the 4 adults. James was carried some of the way up, and all of the way down. There was only one accident, where Blake & James both fell down and James busted his lip. We got him cleaned up some and just sat watching the waterfall, listening to the sound of it, and waiting until our muscles thought we would make it down. 2 other adults hiked farther up the mountain to the top. Ken, the boys & I went ahead of the others and climbed back down. That was the hardest thing I think I have ever done. I was carrying Tate most of the way. Ken took turns holding both James & Tate. James was passed out on Ken. It was harder coming down than going up. But it was a great day. Besides the accident with James, everyone had a great time. After the waterfall, we headed back on the road and drove to Gyeongju (Kyeongju), about an hour drive east of Gumi. We drove around a found a hotel. I stayed at the hotel with our boys while everyone else went out to find dinner and look at some of the sites. The hotel room had a twin bed & a double bed and barely enough room for the pack & play for Tate. Everyone slept VERY well that night.
A rest stop sign on the highway
One of the MANY tunnels we drove through on the trip. I don't think I've ever been through so many.
A huge TV at an intersection on the way to Gumi
A small portion of the trail that was just packed dirt. This was right before all the rocks in the ground we had to walk over.
In front of a smaller waterfall long way down from the main one. The people behind us are washing their feet.
These are NOT the rocks we had to climb/walk over. They're in the stream.
James and his friend Kevin throwing rocks back into the river. They liked to get within 6 inches of the edge before throwing them. Made both moms very nervous.
Another view of the stream.
Cathryn right before the last stretch to the waterfall. See those rocks she's standing on? Those are what we had to walk on most of the way.
WE MADE IT!!!!!
The Waterfall
Blake before our picnic lunch at the waterfall.
There was a little 'cave' that had benches underneath. It was nice and cool there. Perfect spot for lunch.
Cliffs and trees across from the benches, to the side of the waterfall.
How the waterfall became well known.
Blake right next to the waterfall, exploring
James & Kevin poking a stick in the water, laughing at the ripples in the water.
Where water from the waterfall flows.
Cathryn, James, & Kevin (about 5 minutes before the accident busting James' lip.)
The stretch of the hiking trail near the beginning that was stairs. I was thankful for the railing on the way down. My legs were shaking uncontrollably by this point in the descent.
Entrance of the trail. We got done an hour earlier than the others.
Hotel Security measures.
The water from the sink went down the sink and straight down into the floor. No pipe, bu there was a big guard to protect your feet.
