Old Town (bust)

Heidi's parents came down for most of the this weekend. They wanted to take the kids somewhere to have fun while they were here. Since there were no movies for the kids out right now, we thought Old Town in Kissimmee would be a good place to go. Well, maybe not. Our kids have never been to Disney or anywhere else that has rides, besides the trains at zoos. So, Saturday afternoon the boys went motorcycle shopping and the girls went clothes shopping and met up at Old Town after lunch. We figured that taking the kids after lunch would ensure that they were fed and happy. We were wrong. We walked all the way to the end of Old Town to the special kiddie ride section. They had a roller coaster, tea cups, mini-Tilta-Whirl, carousel, and a dune buggy ride. Blake got excited about the dune buggy ride. He got in the car and strapped himself in and was fine. . . until the ride actually STARTED! We didn't know the cars actually lifted up in the air while they spun around. He immediately started screaming bloody murder. Meanwhile, all of us with cameras are taking pictures and laughing. (nice of us, huh?) The guy stopped the ride and got him out . . . and gave his tickets back. I think we might have to work the kids into rides slowly. Cathryn was freaked out just hearing Blake scream.
It started raining right after the dune buggy incident. The only ride they would let us on was the carousel. The only reason the kids got on that was because Ken & I got on with them. And even then they weren't too sure about the ride. Blake refused to get on a horse, even one that didn't move. Then, once he got the courage, the ride people shut down the ride. Needless to say, Blake & Cathryn did not enjoy Old Town all that much. The highlight was going to a small toy store and discovering they had Cars to look at. We were able to keep the tickets and they don't expire. Maybe for another family activity we'll try again on a day when it's not raining and the kids aren't tired from being out all day.
